UAE is home to many expatriates, especially labourers, hence to improve their safety, the UAE government has set some rules. To enhance workplace inspection and elevate occupational safety UAE government has agreed with International Labour Organisation. The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation signed the cooperative agreement during the ILO conference in Geneva, with the presence of Minister Abdulrahman Al Awar and ILO Director General Gilbert F Hounbo. The objective of the agreement is to bolster the skills and knowledge of ministry inspectors, enabling them to conduct proactive inspections. The agreement was signed by Shayma Al Awadhi from the ministry and Ruba Jaradat, the ILO’s regional director for Arab states. Al Awadhi emphasized the UAE’s commitment to the partnership with ILO, emphasizing the protection of workers’ rights and the country’s pursuit of excellence in the labour market. Additionally, the agreement aims to regulate labour relations, foster stability, boost productivity, and generate more employment opportunities. The UAE’s emphasis on occupational safety and health is deeply ingrained in its labour market culture. The announcement follows the reintroduction of the annual mandatory midday break for outdoor workers, implemented to safeguard employees from the extreme summer heat. If anyone violates the policy, they will have to pay fines of up to Dh 50,000.
